ECON 1B03 Exam with Holmes
I've heard the exam was really hard last semester. For anyone who took the course last semester, do you have any tips on how to study for this exam?
Any advice at all is appreciated.
Thanks!

I had it last term. You really need to be solid on all of the concepts because you have to do several questions in a really limited amount of times. If you can't do one question, that may impact on you doing 4-5 other questions as they are on the same topic. Just go over all of the PPTs and do all of the sample calculations she does in her PPTs and understand it to a certain extent and you'll be fine. I managed to end up with a 12 in her course.

I took this course previously but with O'shaughnessy. When I reinstated I had it wiped for my 'clean slate'.
Do you recall which calculations were emphasized specifically?

As she may have already mentioned, most of the exam is application so know your calculations like how to calculate profit, deadweight loss, etc.
If I remember correctly several questions would ask you to refer to the previous question (which was frustrating if you didn't understand the last question).
I had her last semester I felt her midterms were more memorizing while her exam was more understanding

It depends on the breakdown she gave you guys for the exam. Just be comfortable with all the calculations and make sure to be solid on elasticity! A lot of people screw up in those calculations cause they're off by a negative sign somewhere. Good luck guys!

When solving numerical problem, forget about equations. Set up graph(linear) and label equilibrium point. From there, using basic analytical geometry you can solve whatever you need(i.e DWL,PS,CS etc)

Good luck on Micro guys. Just don't freak out if you don't get a question and move on to the next set and come back to it afterward.
