ECON1B03: Aswani vs. Khan??? T.T
Hi,

I'm taking econ 1B03 this summer and don't know whether I should take the course with Fred Aswani or Rahid Khan. I've read some of the posts/comments about both of them and I'm still undecided....

So far, I've only had 20 minutes of lecture (out of 6 hours) with Aswani because he canceled one of the classes. Because his lecture was so limited, I haven't had the time to form a general opinion about his lecture style/clarity etc.... all I know is that I can't understand him very well because of his accent... (but people say that you get used to it :S)

I haven't been to any of Khan's lectures but I'm guessing he covered a lot already and I have no idea how he teaches :S

Any comments would be appreciated and the drop and add date is... today!

Thanks!

Aswani is pretty good. His accent does take getting used to though. I basically never touched the textbook or anything. Study through my notes and sometimes his lecture notes all year long and pulled out a pretty good mark.

No thoughts on Khan, never had him.

I have had Khan for two classes now (including 1B03) and he's also hard to understand due to his accent. When he starts talking quickly, all his words seem to mush together and I can't make out everything he says consistently.

His style during lectures is to use blank overheads with a marker and jot down graphs, equations, and examples while talking. He never uses power point but provides you with a courseware that includes limited notes and a lot of old tests.

I'm not sure if his course structure is different from Aswani's class but he provides a lot of opportunities to do well. There are three tests but only the top two marks count for ~40% combined of your grade. There are also four quizzes which are true and false and count for ~10% of your grade. Like the tests, best three marks out of four count. The quizzes are easy though since they are both open book and talking is allowed amongst everyone. He also gives out bonus assignments and extra marks to students who go to class after they write the midterms.

I can't compare between the two profs as I've never taken an Aswani class but Khan is definitely worth switching to since you're very likely to get a high grade.

Aswani made me want to off myself. Khan is the man.

Take Khan.

Thanks everyone!!!

I think I'm going to go with Khan... the course seems to be better structured, although this would mean that I will have a midterm next week... x.x

Ive had both and liked them both. I do think your right to have picked Khan though...Ive found its easier to get a high mark with him than with Aswani.
