Efrt
I was wondering when applications for becoming a member of the efrt come out. Also, is it very difficult to make it? What CPR training is needed? How are the people selected, and how many people are selected?

I googled "efrt mcmaster" and clicked on the first link... https://www.msumcmaster.ca/services-...onse-team-efrt
It should answer a few of your questions.

I don't know the numbers for how many people apply vs get accepted, but I have heard it's very competitive.

Applications are out when the Fall term starts up in September and are generally due by the end of September. I don't recall what CPR certification is needed but I suggest being VERY prepared. Once you submit your application you get an interview where they ask you to show some of your CPR skills. This is when they select the applicants to move onto the next round. Selection past the first round is based on both your application form and your performance during the skills assessment. Making the team is neither super hard, but its not easy either, however it is competitive. They want to make sure you are skilled and prepared to handle any situations you may come across. The more experience you have with CPR training the better. Best of luck!

The application usually comes out in late Aug and is due back around mid-Sept. You need to have Standard First Aid and CPR (Health Care Provider) level. We do offer this course on different dates leading up to the application due date if you don't have it already.

As for the process, we usually get on average 70-100 applications a year, from there we go through the first round of selection and select the top 42. These candidates will go through the second round of selection. There is no pre-determined number of people the team will take per year, it is entirely based on your performance throughout the whole try-out process.

Glad to hear you're interested in joining the team, let me know if you want more info. Or better yet, come by our PR booth at club fest in Sept or email our Training & Orientation Coordinator.

Thanks! I have my CPR in level C so is there anyway I could update it to the level of HCP without having to redo the entire course? Also is there anything specific you look for when you look at applicants?

I am the Training and Orientation Coordinator for 2013-2014. If you would like to contact me regarding the orientation process feel free to email me at [email protected] ter.ca

To answer your question about CPR HCP, you would have to take a full course to upgrade to HCP. EFRT does offer the courses every other weekend throughout the summer so you could easily get it before the applications come out. You can look at the course dates on our website (which you can find by searching for "mcmaster efrt" in google.

In terms of what we look for, there isn't really one specific thing. The tryouts are a long enough process where we are able to evaluate you on your overall skills.
