Econ 1B03 and Econ 1BB3 are what a lot of people take as electives. They are both interesting and relatively easy courses. I would tell him not to take research and writing intensive courses because papers take up a lot of time, something that he probably wont have a lot of in his first year

I would recommend Econ 1B03 and 1BB3.

In my first year, I took Anthro 1A03 and Econ 1B03 (out of interest). I learned that Social Science is not my thing as they have to write papers supporting their argument by researching scholarly sources. In my own opinion, I'd rather sit for hours working on problems than to find citations to support my arguments.

But that's just me.

*edit*
Looks like Matthew and I submitted around the same time, there you have it!

I would also recommend taking Econ 1B03/1BB3 though I personally found that 1BB3 required more work than 1B03 which required a minimal amount of work.

Tell him to take what he likes... engineering students with econ are a dime a dozen, and I find economics dry and useless..

ECON 1B03 & 1BB3 are probably the most interesting and easiest of all electives for first year. Taking them would spare you a lot of time for other work. I strongly recommend, you take the two courses. Its an easy 10 or above for both, trust me !!

Take whatever. Linguistics is easy. Econ 1B03 at the very least opens up business options. I'm sure there are tons of other easy courses out there.

Thanks guys, he is actually good at english and it was his highest mark in gr 12. Think he got a 99 lol. Anyway I told him english in uni is way harder so he wants to take an english as an elective but I told him dont. Is taking micro and macro helpful for future classes , why do all eng people take them

He should take something that interests him, if it's English, then that's what he should take. Regardless of difficulty.

1B03 and 1BB3 doesn't contribute anything in upper years besides Eng 2B03/4B03 which we have to take but doesn't really relate to Micro or Macro. It's mainly about engineering related economics like depreciation and operating costs.

Econ 1b03 is incredibly easy. If you want management, you're going to have to take it anyways. You can also work towards a business minor for them. 1BB3 isn't hard either. It is also interesting

Tell him to take what INTEREST him or WHAT HE ENJOYS. Honestly, you lose motivation to put effort if the course is so dreadful/dry that it bores you so much that you play computer games during lecture(i did). econ 1bb3 was more work than 1b03 yet it was more interesting and my mark was higher. if your brother is interested in econ at all and likes math(the econ math was so easy IMO) take 1bb3 for sure.
