Of course they needed a 4.0, but so long as they had that they were guaranteed into the stream they picked as first choice.

There, I said what you wanted to hear, now stop making all of these damn threads. Its not going to change anything. Study hard, shut up, and wait for your acceptance. Posting about it on a forum isnt going to change what it says.
Harsh, but it is reality. Complaining on forums gets you no where.

I see. if this is true, they should make it more obvious at the stream presentations.

Also, as long as you get a 4.0, your guarunteed a stream, not necessarily your stream though (but seems like last year, everyone got what they wanted)

Yeah, I didn't hear many people complaining about not getting into their first choice. It would be pretty convenient to know at the beginning of your first year in Engineering that as long as you kept a 4.0, you aren't competing with others as much. It's also kind of strange that high school marks determine your eligibility for program choice, but I suppose this is a way in which McMaster gets students with high marks to come here. Many choose other schools (i.e., Waterloo) for fear of coming here but not being let into the program you wanted; this would be incentive to choose another school, where you know from the beginning you're in the program you want. Therefore, if you have that letter you can choose McMaster knowing that you're not going to stuck in a program you didn't want when you chose to come here.

Yeah....

Materials definitely wasn't my last choice. Not at all...

But that's my fault. Less than two and a half hours 'til my exam starts and I'm on MI for some reason. I also haven't slept. I also need an unreasonably high mark to pass the course.

I'm really glad I didn't get into my top three choices though after seeing the kind of work they're doing. I also saw my Materials prof (Zurob!) like, the day after my rejection at my place work so I figured it had to be fate.

I got in with an 80.5% but that's only because I complained a lot on my supplementary application.

I don't recall McMaster having people fill out a supplementary application. That sounds more like a Waterloo thing.

3 years ago they actually had a basic supplementary application that anyone from any faculty could fill out if they felt they didn't meet the cutoff or for any other reason. sadly, i think they've taken this away now.

I don't want to sound mean but if you're worried about getting in, you might want to think about how hard its going to be next year if you do.

Make sure that you're confident in how you will do next year if you get in before you start running around trying to boost your grades or whatever. Because next year you're going to be paying for everything, and you don't get that money back.

If you're not ready, you're not. There is no shame in waiting until you're prepared.

Trust me. I got an 80.5% as my entry average and right now I'm in 5th year Mechatronics, and I've never had to repeat a year.

Best advice I can give: make lots of friends and get them to teach you. Connections are just as important as studying from a textbook.

In the nicest way possible, all you people need to chill the hell out. If you don't get accepted, apply somewhere else. Simple.

Completion of High School Diploma plus;
Grade 12 U/M requirements - 6 courses in total, including:
• English (ENG4U)
• Calculus & Vectors (MCV4U)
• Chemistry (SCH4U)
• Physics (SPH4U)
Note: Students are expected to have completed Advanced Functions (MHF4U).

Anticipated Admission Range - September 2010 (Subject To Change)
81-84%

You're barely a % off. Boost your marks. It's that simple. There's no reason why they wouldn't give you a conditional offer.
