I found an advisor in May and began my research into my topic in the summer to get ahead - GOOD IDEA!! Make sure you find an idea you will still love researching and talking about by the end of the year, or else you will loathe it by then (I hear).

A lot of this course depends on who you get to be your advisor and how they work. Some only want to see you when you hand in your parts, but mine wanted to meet bi-weekly or monthly to make sure I was on the right track... she was VERY helpful.
