Does anyone know whether the textbook is really necessary for this course?
Dr. Kim teaches this course, so are his midterms and exams, from his lecture notes, or would you do bad without the textbook?

yea, id get the book. i took it last year. 2nd edition should be fine also. textbook is an easy read since it follows the slides exactly
