Eye Glasses help
Soo I have vision glasses without which I can't see the Slides during lectures or anyone more then 20 feet away clearly! I lost them during WW(FAIL). How do I get new ones(My last ones were bought in Pakistan for like $15; I haven't bought glasses in Canada yet) and which is a place you would recommend as being cheap? Also how much of it can we get covered using MSU insurance? The MSU Website coverage thing only lists one eye examination 50% re-imbursed and 80% of Repair costs covered. Can this count as Repair? I mean it is an emergencyish situation! Or Can I just take a frame and say it was broken get new glass pieces and get 80% re-imbursment? :S

Cause I randomly saw an add for Glasses at a bus stop saying: "Sale starting at $179.99!" I was like WOAH $15 vs $200+ :(

yeah, prescription glasses here are expensive.

Were yours prescription? Because if you know the general diopter number places like Wal-mart sell -1 to -5 or something glasses for really cheap.

If your glasses were prescription, do you remember your old prescription (so you don't need an eye test).

Walmart and most pharmacies will usually sell them for anywhere between $10 and $30 depending on the quality and size. Don't expect anything 'stylish'.

I'm sorry, but LensCrafters is a huge ripoff. They've got nice frames, but the prices are jacked way up.

If you don't mind bussing into east Hamilton or even up the mountain, there are a couple places where you can get glasses for $60-$100.

The one in east Hamilton (Optical Factory in the Centre Mall plaza) sells complete pairs starting from $90 for one pair or $150 for two. Another place with locations in east Hamilton and on the mountain (Optical Clearance Outlet) has complete pairs starting from $60, but their frame selection's pretty limited. I've got a pair of glasses from Optical Factory and they're fairly good. If you like, PM me and I can send you a pic of the ones I have.

Good luck on your quest for new glasses!

Thanks alot guys!

But by pairs I'm assuming you mean both left and right eye glasses right?

And that $60-100 fees includes the lens and the frames right? I don't really care about the frame all that much lol!

I can barely see anything 20 cm away
For higher prescriptions Lenscrafters is good because they're quality pairs, last a good time, and you get free adjustments and things.
However, a prescription as low as that should be covered (as some people had already mentioned) at Walmart. I'd recommend popping by Campus Health and seeing if they have any suggestions. I understand about the exchange rate but since it doesn't always transfer over there's not much you can do about it except shop around. (30 AED keyboard cover < $10, but here it's 30 bucks.)

In the mean time the most important thing to do is not panic.
You'll worry and worry and feel like you can see less than you can.
I barely ever wear my glasses when I'm outside but knowing I have them makes me feel more secure. The minute I lose them or they break I feel as though I've lost a foot.

You've been in more lecture halls than me, Huzaifa, so I may be wrong but you could just move up until you find a pair you're happy with.

20 feet is fine, don't worry just yet
You'll be okay and the minute you find a pair of glasses you like (and I'd buy a backup. Always always always. They're like external hard drives - for the eyes ) you may even find you don't feel that reliant on them anyway.

Nope, pairs meaning two separate pairs of complete glasses
And yes, the prices I'm quoting is for both the frames and lenses lol

Hmm LOL that'll bankrupt me for sure!

But I reaaally can't see the fine print in the slides without my glasses. But then again I sit at the back always! I can't sit allll the way upfront except for econ.

I probably misestimated that 20 feet though! :S

I'm pretty sure they'd ask for ID.

I think I saw pairs of glasses for -1.75 in shoppers, for cheap ~$15. If thats what you need, you will find glasses like this everywhere. for cheap. Prescription ones cost a pretty penny though.
