When you click on a course on avenue, there should be "Content" at the top of the page, click that and you should be able to see the course outline and all the lecture notes and stuff (but that's probably for later on in the course).
Some profs don't upload the course outline until like few days before school starts, so like by next week.

Aside from that, you can usually find past course outlines by Googling the course or "______ course outline 2012" or something. They usually don't change too much, maybe textbooks or something.

most faculties post them on their sites. For example, http://ug.degroote.mcmaster. ca/course-outlines/ . I'm sure most are last years but as long as the prof is the same the courses are usually pretty much the same to give you a rough idea while you wait.

I don't advise doing this. Courses can completely change from year to year. As such, wait until it is officially posted somewhere.

I would suggest that you go on the course website and check some professors might have it for you.
Example : I have posted the biology website link : http://www.biology.mcmaster. ca/und...s/courses.html
These are usually the most recent ones, so if you want to know what the course might offer before starting classss you could check these out. As mentioned course outlines might change from year to year depending on program to program.
Hope this helps

Depends on the course, I suppose. Most outlines I've seen don't change much from year to year. There are exceptions of course, but it's not like courses can change complete from year to year every single year. Just don't take it as gospel and you should be okay for the general idea of the course.

If the prof is the same, chances are an old course outline will be similar to that for the current year. If the prof is different, however, all bets are off, and it's not unreasonable to expect something completely different.
