First year physique :)
How hard is it to stay fit or lose weight if one is in first year life science ?
Is it hard to have a high GPA and find time for social life and gym ?
Time Management looks scary from here :S

I dunno, I'm in Commerce (see: do nothing) and I got up to 150 pounds in first year.
I started off at ... 120?
Edit: I'm also 4"9.
Impressed yet?

Between speed-walking to classes and taking the stairs instead of the super slow elevators in some buildings, I think you'll be losing more weight than gaining. Not to mention all the time spent stressing out about homework rather than eating...
but there are those who tend to eat more when they're stressed, so it goes both ways I guess.
ANYWAY tldr; it's totally possible to go to the gym whenever you're free. life science isn't as arduous as you think. I have friends in engineering who can manage to squeeze in regular workouts.

well your sleep schedule (or general schedule) might be different each day or week (depending on your assignments, midterms etc) so depending on how you react to that you could gain a lot of weight or lose a lot of weight? i personally lost a bit of weight during first year lmao, probably because i would sleep in and skip breakfast, or stress would make me less hungry=eating less (or like Abir said, you could eat more when youre stressed) .. so youll have to see how youll react to things like that. if you just want to work out then im sure you can fit some time into your schedule, youre not gonna work all day, sleep, work all day, sleep etc.. im sure youll have free time and youll get to choose what you wanna do with it!

I gained like 25 pounds too :(. It's definitely possible but it'll take a little bit of effort and time management to plan out your time wisely.

Can't speak from experience on your work load, but I can offer a few tips to keep your metabolism high.
- Just do 40 minutes of cardio/weights every day/every odd day.
- Drink 3-5 cups of green tea and minimum 8 glasses of water (~4 bottles) per day.
- Eat 5 small meals per day instead of 3 large ones. Don't eat too late at night (gets stored as fat).
These may seem a bit demanding, but if you can note some of these points you can potentially avoid packing on the pounds and save yourself some time in the process. Of course, you could also be one of the lucky few whose food goes right through them.

Me too :/. But since you're on residence it'll be a little easier to push yourself to go to the gym. It really all depends on you, but it's definitely best to do it everyday otherwise, you'll fall behind! I had an off-day here and there but it catches up to you really fast if you skip a day or two without doing some work.
