ouuu I want to go! I'm assuming lineups for that is gonna be longgggg

I remember this happening four years ago I think? Saw this on the news and apparently the lineup was 5-6 hours so either get there early or prepare for the wait!

lol, I find it fascinating that people would waste 6 hours of their day waiting for a free $20 meal, yet if they were to spend 6 hours working even at minimum wage (which wouldn't be any worse than waiting outside in the hot weather), theyd be able to make about $70, and buy at least 3 Mandarin meals on a regular day without the wait.

Except that people didnt skip work to wait... Its not like they are making money on Canada Day anyways, so its 6 hours=$20 or 6 hours =$0.

Where did you get that from? In fact, I'm pretty sure it's time and a half pay on Canada day.
My point was simply that when people hear "free", they get so excited, but technically waiting in long line ups for several hours is, in a way, paying for it.

Canada Day isn't officially a holiday or w.e...at least thats what my boss said. So it wouldn't be time and a half...unless he lied to me? O.O

Canada Day is definitely a statutory holiday. An employer can give you a different day in lieu of Canada Day and then not pay you time and a half, but it has to be mutually agreed upon (as in you have to freely agree). Check out labour laws on the Ontario government website.

A part time employee cannot be scheduled on that day and be told they were given a different day off in lieu.

I went to this a few years ago with some friends. We got there around 10 am and didn't get seated til around 6 I think? We were near the end of the line. It was an all day wait, but we had a good time anyway. Mayor susan fennell showed up at one point. Just know that you might have to buy some food while waiting for your free food haha.

If you want to go, bring some friends to keep you company. If you're a group of people who can make a fun day out of being outside for a long time, then go for it. You'll be rewarded for your efforts in your weight in Chinese food.
