Free Help
Hi,

Has anyone here offered free academic help before? How did you do it and what was your experience?

I haven't, but how can you do it? Put some posters up at specific places specifying what you can help with, post a marketplace ad on MacInsiders, Craiglists (lol), etc..?

Try to find a study group, but besides that I don't know many people, especially during midterms, who will randomly help strangers

When I think tutor I think meeting with the student 1 on 1. What I am thinking of is more of an open, drop-in style type of help. A 'help desk' you could say.

I guess I would like to start by offering help in subjects I am relatively comfortable with. So, I was thinking basic calculus, circuits and maybe some programming.

So if anyone has any related experience or ideas please do share.

So far I have come up with:
- post on the internet my hours and location
- talk to friends that know a lot of lower year students to let them know
- post a small paper sign saying 'free math/circuits help' at my table in the library

Ponyo likes this.

i think that is a great idea !
and i agree with what people said just post adds in libraries
and maybe in front of math classes this way when we are getting out or coming into class we can see the add
also i'm not sure if profs would do this (i don't see why they wouldn't) , but maybe you could tell first year calc profs that you are offering help and this way the prof could announce that to his classes
btw if you don't mind but why are you offering free help ( not that i'm complaining) ? usually people want money
best of luck !!
