Geo 2GG3 or 3EE3?
Hey guys I need some advice.

I need to do really well this semester since it's my last, should I take Geo 3EE3 or 2GG3. I've heard some nasty stuff about 2GG3, but would it be better/ easier than 3EE3?

I don't have a huge science background, more social/ human geography.

Any help, advice or reviews of these two courses would be greatly appreciated!

I would take 3EE3, it's a very interesting course. It is all about different types of energies. Solar, wind, coal, etc. Their costs, whats cheaper, cost effective, how to do environmental risk assessment for putting these things up. Very interesting. And the professor, Padden, is really great. I think it's a fair course. Most people do well. You will need to put in a couple of hours of studying for the midterm. Just read the slides over twice or three times, and because the material is interesting, it will stick.
The labs for this course are mostly easy. Just watching some videos, sometimes answering questions on different types of energies. For one of them you go to the reactor, and answer questions. Only one of the labs are super annoying where you have to energy audit your home, so you have to measure your home and find your old bills, and do some calculations. very tough, but you can get help with that.

I loved 3EE3, so I would take that. Natural disasters, with Sonnenburg, will be decent. I would say they're both equal in terms of difficuty. 3EE3 might be more interesting, and Padden is great. Though Sonnenburg is good too. Do both if you can.

hey anaam,

Since u took the course, I have a question for you if you do not mind. Do labs take the full 2 hours? The reason i;m asking is bc i have an unsolvable conflict where the last hour of the two hour 3ee3 lab overlaps with another course.

I don't remember it taking long. It was usually walk it, get the sheets, walk out. You could stay there and finish if you wanted. For some, you had to watch video. I don't think that took 2 hours though. May be 1 at most. For the trip to the nuclear reactor, that took a while. So that might conflict, but it's just one time.

you can try to move your lab, she would be open about it. I remember, some people wanted to trade, so she request to class herself to move into another lab. So people swtiched around, in case that might work better for you. But I dont think it would be a problem if you stay in the same lab.

would you say that the textbook is actually necessary/useful for labs for this course?

Not necessary at all. If for some reason, you need it, like you miss class and can't find notes, you can just use it from the library. Otherwise, her notes and lectures are more than sufficient.

Take Geog 3EE3. I've taken Geog 2GG3, it's more challenging every year. They are trying to remove it's image of "bird course".

Padden's courses in general are very straight forward. She has alot of experience teaching. I know very few people who have done poorly in her classes.

Good luck!

I took Geog 2GG3 last term and I would strongly advise against it. I came out with a decent mark, but the class was run pretty poorly and I wish I never took it.

I'm taking 3EE3 right now, and I think it looks okay. I took 3ER3 with Padden a couple years ago and I find her lectures very easy to follow. She seems really happy and interested that the students do well in the course; I think that really helps. She said the labs are packed right now - I think the ONLY one with any space is Wednesday at 4:30pm. Other than that, you're out of luck. We only have one in-class lecture. The Friday lectures will be podcasts.
