Geo 3RW3
Does anyone know when they announce which region will be the focus of Geo 3RW3? Under the master timetable it just says TBA, so I'm wondering do they wait until classes start to announce it?

It will more likely than not be Brazil. Dr. Mercier will be teaching it, and for the past few consecutive years, he has taught it on Brazil. I would be quite surprised if it was different.

Then again, I could be wrong : http://www.science.mcmaster. ca/geo...rw3/index.html

EDIT: Actually, that was for this summer. I thought forgot what spring meant. Refer to first post.

It has Dr.Mercier listed for the 2nd term course, but no prof listed for the first term one so I'm not even sure who's teaching it...

It's only offered the one term through the year. If it's Dr. Mercier, bet on Brazil. If you are interested, I recommend it 100%. Dr. Mercier, in my viewpoint, is one of the best lecturers McMaster has to offer.

I'm pretty sure It's offered both terms this year, I'm registered for 1st term and it has 2nd term listed also. I hope it's Dr. Mercier, I had him for 1HA3 and I really liked him

Then it may be that way. It's just because I thought he usually teaches the Japan course as well, and assumed they would take separate semesters. To my knowledge, Mercier is the only prof who teaches this course. The only reason Coulibaly taught 3RW3 this summer was because Mericer was not teaching this summer.

I just spoke with Dr. Mercier today. He is teaching it second term on Brazil. First term the school does not know who will teach it, or on what region. I was wrong in my belief that only he taught it. He is the main one (with random profs stepping in for different regions). But he will be teaching it on Brazil this year.

Just wanted to get you accurate information

It's definately Brazil this year.
I took the course last year and wanted to take it again, so I emailed Prof Mercier and asked if it would be a different region. He said he is too busy this summer to make a new course, so it will be Brazil again.

That's just for term 2 though. Prof Rink is teaching term 1, and I don't know what his region will be.
I've never heard of him, so I looked him up on ratemyprofessor.com. I know you shouldn't trust that site too much, but I've never seen such bad reviews before :/ So if you're planning on taking it term 1, be wary of the prof. :/

I've never actually used that site before to check out profs before classes start but omg those reviews are so bad for Rink. :| I might actually change this course now. I really wanted to take it but I can't switch it to second term.

Honestly I wouldn't say not to take the course because of the prof...he's not that bad. I had him for gemstones and yes he isn't the best prof but he isn't horrible either. If you like the topic then take the course don't let ratemyprofessor.com scare you away.

Like stephfraser said, I wouldn't let ratemyprofessor.com scare you from a course if you really want to take it. Besides, you can always switch into another class. I think you have 2 weeks after the beginning of the term to switch courses, and you should be able to tell by then if you like the prof or not.

I think I'm going to take it and see how it goes. I really liked 3RW3 with Prof Mericer, hopefully I'll like this one too.

Yeah, you're right. I think I'll wait til classes start first and make an opinion for myself, then if I want to switch out I can. Besides, everything else is pretty much full now and there's more people moving around during the first few weeks.
