Give/Donate Aquarium Fish?
Does anyone know if I can give/donate aquarium fish to the local pet store (such as Petsmart, PJ's, Big Al's, etc.). I have googled this, but it seems the answers are conflicting.

I want to change my aquarium style, and the fish as well. They are healthy fish, not sick ones.

Some fish stores that AREN'T in a chain will take them. Find an independent one. And then there's breeders that buy and sell them out of their homes/garages.

You can try to donate them to the SPCA. They have a big aquarium, but it's not for adopting out the fish (it's just for "appearance"). Call them and ask, I'm sure they'd take them if your fish are compatible with theirs.

(Most people probably would have just flushed them, thank you so much for not doing that!)

So far, I've decided that I want to give away my Tiger Oscar. It's about 6 inches long.

How abut you just wait for them to die off? I dont think a lot of stores would take sketchy fish from random people (some smaller ones might through)

But that could take years.

If it takes years, you're doing it wrong.

I was going to offer to take it, then I realised it was a Cichlid, It really wouldn't get along with some of the fish in my aquarium and we already have far too many territorial fish for a 40 Gallon tank.

That's odd. But good. I was under the impression large chains had policies to prevent disease in their aquariums. I reiterate though: Cichlids for the win.
