Global Citizenship Conference 2012 - Looking for Volunteers!
Are you passionate about issues affecting our local and global community? Are you unsure of where to start in your journey to promoting a better world for all? Then consider volunteering with the Global Citizenship Conference 2012. The Global Citizenship Conference has a distinguished six year history of bringing well-known speakers to Mac to talk about various topics ranging from economic to environmental to social justice. Past speakers have included:
·Stephen Lewis, former UN Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa
·Stephen Wallace, Vice-President Policy Branch of the Canadian International Development Agency
·George Roter, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Engineers Without Borders
·Michael Ignatieff, renowned global academic and deputy leader of the Liberal Party of Canada
If you are interested in getting involved with the Global Citizenship Conference 2012, come to our information session next week or email [email protected]. We still have an open executive position, as well as committee positions available.
The information session will be held Wednesday September 28th at 1:30 in Clubspace (Room 215b).
Hope to see you there!

Since when is there a globalist movement at Mac ?
One of the most evil things in this world is globalism. Look at what Europe has become. No one wants a one world government with Big Brother watching you.
Before trying to "fix" the world, try fixing Canada. The taxes in this country are killing people, the unemployment rate is 7.3%, no gun rights and the list goes on.
I know the OP's post states the word "local", but I have attended certain speaking events and they never mentioned the problems in this country.

I can't say I've been, but I don't believe that this is about globalism at all, as opposed to Canada's national voice in the global world (e.g. our contributions as a peacekeeping nation, etc.).

J. Dorey, you are completely correct. This is about our role in an increasingly connected world and how we use our role for greater positive change, whether environmental, social, economic or health-related. We do include local speakers and community groups as well.
If you want to message me on PM, I'd be more than happy to discuss the conference with you further.
