i have two questions:

-is there a student discount for GO bus fares? if so, how much? (i have the sticker on my student card).

-also, if i'm coming from toronto (north york) to mac, do i have to take the subway to union station, then take the go bus, or is there a shorter way?

The GO Bus goes from York University to Mac, so if you have no problem getting to York it should be a better option than going to Union. Yes, students do get a discount. Here are the prices from York to Mac:

Adult Monthly Pass: $327.00
Adult 10-ride Ticket: $91.50

Student Monthly Pass: $257.00
Student 10-ride Ticket: $84.25

Those GO people increased fares!!

it seems that students only benefit from the monthly pass or 10-ride ticket. so there are no discounts for a single-ride ticket?

Nope. There are only student monthly passes/10 rides. BUT the great thing about 10 rides is that they don't expire, so if you know you're going to make a lot of the same ride over your years at Mac, you may as well buy 10 rides in advance and save $$.
