I know that last semester there was a GO bus from Union that stopped at the Downtown bus station around King & James.

It'd stop right in front of the 51 University bus stop, so I always saw people getting of the GO union, and catching the 51 to Mac.

Whichever way you go, good luck

As Jeremy said, you can get down at Columbia College (Main and Longwood intersection) and walk west to Mac (20 minute walk).

For going back to Union, you can catch the go bus from King/Dundurn intesection. I don't think its a walking distance so can take the hsr bus from the campus (take any one of 1A, 5, 5C). You can always ask the hsr driver to let you off at king/dundurn.
Just so you know, the schedules for the academic year aren't posted quite yet. They'll be up in the next three weeks or so.

Those schedules will have the buses coming much more frequently than they do in the summer.
