Possible GO Transit Strike!
At present, GO Transit bus drivers may be on strike on Monday morning. Contract negotiations occurred earlier on today (Friday), but no deal between GO drivers and union reps have been met. The impending strike will affect many people at McMaster who commute each day. MacInsiders will update everyone as soon as information comes available about this issue.
The reasons as to why there is a possible strike involve the bus driver’s wages and job security. They have actually been in a position to strike since December 10th. If they drivers do walk off the job at 12:01AM Monday morning, 30 000 commuters will be affected. This strike does not disturb GO train directly, but it is possible picket lines may upset commuters.
GO is advising it’s riders to take use alternate forms of transportation. A good resource to check out at this time is the MSU’s ride share program, also called Rideboard. You can check it out here:
http://www.msu.mcmaster.ca/rideboard/. As a passenger you can request rides, and as a driver you can ask for passengers. There is also an additional portion of the site which is specifically for those who commute.
