Going To England?
Hi!!

Okay I've been considering going international and I would really love to study in the UK. Has anyone else ever tried to apply or had hopes of doing so. I'm only going into second year so its probably a longshot.... Also how hard is it to get in?

A friend of mine went to Bristol in his 3rd year. I think the ideal year for exchanges is 3rd year, but it doesn't hurt to try : )

McMaster has tons of international exchange opportunities. I know people who were in England, Denmark, France, and Australia this year for exchanges.

check out the Office of International Student Services:

I'm not really interested in an exchange program. I want to go for good. Its not that I don't like mac or anything like that but I just need change of scenery.

In that case, I'd start to Google schools in the UK (There are plenty), and reading their websites with regards to international admissions. Just a warning, prepare to pay A LOT for tuition.

Indeed. Tuition for international students is something like three times of that of a domestic. And of course, everything would either be in pounds or the EU currency, making things even more expensive.

I just used the fees calculator for Oxford University. It costs about £20,000 a year. That's $35,600 at today's exchange rate. :(

That's almost enough money for three years at Mac.

It's even more, since our tuition is like $7000 a year give or take.

Yeah, we pay about 20-25% of the actual fees, the government covers the rest. So an international student pays about $25,000. Still a bargain compared to Oxford though!

So are universities in the UK... in fact, the average UK student pays a maximum of £3,125 which is very close to what we pay here. International student tuition is extremely expensive anywhere.

Oxford is so expensive because of the guaranteed quality of education, the tradition, and the name. You pay just as much to go to schools like Harvard, Yale, Cambridge, etc. These are schools which rank consistantly in the top 5 of the world.
