I am planning on applying to Graduate studies for next year and was wondering if anyone knew how many schools people tend to apply to?

It might depend what you're applying for. I was in Pol Sci and applied to 3 schools. Talk to your professors. They give out recommendation letters all the time and probably have a general idea. One of my profs told me which schools I had a shot at getting into and which schools were wasting my money because I had slim chances of getting it. Ask around, profs are happy to help!
