Greenhouses?
Hey MI, I wasn't sure where to put this!

When I toured McMaster, I saw lovely greenhouses (Between Hamilton Hall and the Refectory/Bridges). I never heard about these lovely greenhouses again, nor do I ever hear anyone mention using them or going into them.

So my question is.. what the heck are they? What are they used for? Have you ever had classes in there? Herbology with Neville perhaps?

My favorite is the one about how some of the plants have toxic defense mechanism that could potentially kill you.

Is that just a empty threat or is it a real thing? I'm interested in the plant that has a defensive mechanism now...

Do they mean this?

We used that greenhouse for a Plant Biology 2D03 lab assignment. It was basically a scavenger hunt where all the plants in the greenhouse were labelled with a number and we had to walk around in silence and locate different properties exhibited by plants.

It's not really that neat to be honest. Both meanings of neat apply here

I WAS ACTUALLY EXCITED TO SEE ONE OF THOSE!
But they aren't as responsive as I had imagined. I put my finger inside its "mouth" and it didn't try to eat me or anything .
But you probably taste better than me piggy!

There was also this other strange looking plant with a defensive mechanism.
I didn't label my lab pictures so can't remember what it's called anymore

EDIT: It's called Nepenthes! And has a "passive trap" unlike the Venus Fly trap.

Unless you're clumsy and happen to land on a cladophyll and bleed to death...

Or you're allergic to latex, and get thirsty and mistake this white liquid to be milk for some bizarre reason...

Other than that, you have no reason to fear plants

I tell Mac prospectives it's for a Hogwarts-style Herbology class. They go nuts.

I'm pretty sure there are two parts to it, or at least that's how it looks like from outside. When we went for the Bio 2D03 assignment, it was interesting, but not as much as I thought it would be.. Maybe the other part is better.. I hope?
