Do you ride the GO transit train and wish it had power outlets in every car for your laptop, etc..?
I have ridden on the GO train for the past 4 years, daily since Feb 2010.
Well, you have two options:
---------------------------
There is a selection of GO trains with actual power outlets, mostly in accessibility cars (the one with the ramp).
Power outlets are on second and third floors, 4 per floor, and are pretty easy to spot.
Car numbers:
200 * car on end of train
202 * car on end of train
2007
2008
2027
2028
2037
2100 to 2119
2125
2132
2150 to 2521 * accessibility coaches
2555
if you find more not on this list, please post them!! We can create a huge database!
---------------------------
Otherwise, you can guarantee yourself an outlet (2-4 per car), on EVERY TRAIN.
Locations: second floor on the
right of staircase, third floor on the left at
top of staircase
*a few cars don't have any on second floor, they are mostly the older 2000 series coaches.
The connector is called: Hubbell Twist-Lock (15A, 125V),
closeup picture.
You can build your own adapter for ~$20
Parts:
Male Hubbell Twist-Lock (15A, 125V) connector** 15$
1 foot 3 wire 16 gauge extension cord (or cut female end of extension cord to avoid buying below) 1$
3 wire female 125v household electrical socket 4$
** Found in electrical supply stores (note: my local Canadian Tire does not stock this part)
Assembly:
Very straightforward, all you need is a Robertson screwdriver (square head) and a pair of wire strippers/cutters.
-Strip approx 2cm of wire from both ends of the extension cord
-Open household female socket
-Each wire needs a slight bend, insert curve around screws going clockwise **
-Match the green wire with the green looking screw
-Match white wire with the shiny metal screw
-Match black wire with the dark, brass looking screw
-Repeat the above three steps for the Twist and Lock male connector.
** here is a good resource with pictures for the above steps if your not electrically sound....
