Remember that TV show
Speakers Corner on Citytv? It was a series that took content recorded on the street from members of the general public such as rants, big-ups, shoutouts, jokes, music performance, etc. and edited it up for TV broadcast during a regularly aired show "Speakers Corner".
Hamiltonians
Andrew Gerrior and
Alex Pineda decided to recreate that experience but using new digital tools and technologies. The end result?
Hamilton Hotline. The service just recently launched and will be presented at the upcoming
DemoCamp10 event in Hamilton.
What started as a weekend project has taken off as more Hamiltonians start using the service. Anyone can call the hotline ( 905-581-0686 ) and record a rant, or can visit the website to listen in to other callers musings and cursings.
Have something on your mind that you want to put out there for the rest of Hamilton to hear? Give the hotline a call and the service will automatically transcribe your call and tweet it to their Twitter account
@hamiltonhotline.
"It's fun to leave a message and then watch it transcribe onto the Twitter account", explains Gerrior, "last night the service really went crazy, people just started calling in and telling their friends".
When asked about the purpose of the service, Gerrior said "We want people to call in and talk about issues happening in their community and use it to share their opinion anonymously in a more vocal way".
