Help!?
I do know that the last day to drop courses is this Monday.

I'm a first year and I have 30 units (15 for first term and 15 for 2nd term obviously). Can I drop one of my courses for term 1 and not pick anything instead of it? In other words, can I have 12 units for this term and 15 units for term 2? Is that allowed? Would I still be considered a full-time undergrad first year student?

You are considered full-time if you have 24 units or more. So yes, if you drop that one course, you are still full-time. I don't know what implications that would have on getting into level II programs though. You would obviously have to make up for it later though. Summer school maybe?

I think it may work against you if you plan on applying for grad school since they want to see if you are able to handle a full course load.

I don't believe this is true. Some schools MAY penalize you for taking courses during the summer versus during school (your marks during summer school do not count towards your GPA for many medical schools so it's for when you just need to take that course) and some grad school (only med ones that I know of) will actually drop your lowest courses each year if you take a full course load but I think that dropping one course should not greatly affect your grad school application.

I'm in the Commerce program, and I was wondering if I could something similar. Could I drop one required elective (geo 1ha3, anthro 1a3) and take it in the summer? Who would I have to contact just to make sure?

Thanks in advance

I'm sure they don't have a problem with you dropping a required course if you take it in the summer (many people do that for physics 1b03 and orgo) but I would make sure that they offer that course in the summer (otherwise you are screwed.. a little). Talk to your undergraduate commerce advisors. Um... you probably have to make an appointment because I can't find an e-mail but I'm not looking on the website very thoroughly...

I would make an appointment and talk to them before you do anything!

You don't HAVE to take any specific number of courses (unless you want to remain a full time student in which case you have to take the number mentioned above by the first responder) so yeah, you don't have to take it over the summer. Just make sure it's not a prerequisite of something you may want to take next year.

Also if you have OSAP, you may need to change your course load to reflect your new one which may have an impact on your OSAP amount.

Yeah I found the student advisor's email and I sent one right now o.o

Would it still be possible to drop out of the course after september 21st though (incase they don't respond to my email, i'll call them tomorrow though)? What would be the repercussions for it?

Grad schools like to see you take a full course load but it doesn't really matter. The thing is that most grad schools have really heavy course loads so it's good to take a good course load so that you aren't overwhelmed when you do get into grad school.
