I will be starting Uni in september and I want to live off campus. However some people say that it's better to live on res first year so you can meet more people etc. Any opinions? Off campus is just cheaper for me + more privacy. LOL.

You should've made your own thread. I lived off-campus first year and been commuting since second year. It really depends on you. If you think you're better off living off-campus , go for it. You can still go to campus and participate in various events and crash at a friend's place on campus if need be.
