What is the appeal of Pokemon game?

I never played it (poor) but loved the series.

Rule of thumb in Pokemon games is that you should wait for the game in between releases.

i.e. Buy Emerald instead of Ruby/Sapphire, Crystal instead of Gold/Silver, and Platinum instead of Diamond/Pearl

That way, you get as much Legendary Pokémon and (imo) better gameplay or storylines.

Just sayin'. Wait for whatever is not Black/White. (Judging how they choose names, it'll probably Pokémon Gray...).

I won a pre-release version of yellow through a Toys "R" Us contest as a kid, and I hated it to bits. There was an annoying feature where it wouldn't let you move backwards since pikachu was there. I got stuck alot because of that fat rat...

Furthermore electric starter pokemon sucks when the first gym is rock pokemon..

I always loved that it was more difficult to win with pikachu. I also end up never letting the rest of my pokemon evolve just to make my life more difficult. My August is usually really boring....

Playing with Charmander and having to deal with Brock and Misty as the first two gym leaders was one of the better moments in Pokemon Red/Blue.

Pokemon's turn-based battles were fun... ten years ago.

Seriously, I cannot respect a franchise that doesn't change and innovate. The biggest, latest contribution they've made is two on two monster battles. But it doesn't change the fact that the combat is a bore.

Every time I have a desire to play Pokemon (for whatever reason), I play it, and then immediately question why it was that I felt like playing it in the first place. It's so slow and paced poorly.
