Because you really aren't getting much done . For me it's 5-8 hours, but it really depends on the day I'm having.

Hi I'm Melanie, and I'm a sleepaholic. I always plan for 8 hours sleep, 7 will do, but I'm not fond of it.
In first year tho it was a little weird. I would stay up just watching movies and stuff because I knew I didnt have class in the morning, and the first few weeks of school I found myself showering at 3am :S
But after getting through that and going to bed at a normal time I got my regular sleep, and I would even come back to my room and nap between classes.
I didnt do very much homework.

When I was in first year, I was technically in Business I before switching my courseload over to a complete Life Sci one. I've seen the workload first hand though, and you should easily get 8 hours a night or more if you manage your time well.

I remember in first year I had a math exam from 7-10pm and then next morning at 9am I had an econ exam. So of course math > econ, and I studied all week for math. then at 10pm when I came back to my room i studied for econ until 1am, got tired, went to bed to get my 7.5 hours sleep, and woke up and wrote the exam and did just fine.
Sleep > studying for me. That might screw me over this year though lol

Pretty much 8-9, I see no reason to get less. I'm not very good with lack of sleep (I get headaches and such) so for me it's usually 12am to 9am or something like that.

Well OP, youve gotten about 20 people saying 8 hours, which dare i say it is the generally known, recommended amount, so I think you should go with that! But id wait for another 20 people to post the same answer before confirming this information haha

I dont think it matters what everyone else says. If you have homework/exam the next morning will you stay up all night? Theres your answer.
Are you organized enough to not let it come to that? That is also your answer.
I would not stay up all night, and I am not organized enough. Dont know what that equals though.

If the OP is actually trying to gauge how many hours of sleep he will allow for himself based on these comments, then that would be hilarious! Dont forget to ask about bathroom schedules and the best times to eat during the day! haha i only kid, still quite funny though!
