Just venting...
SO, I want to leave my apartment, looking to lease for May 1st. My room mate is extremely picky. Finally found someone who is interested, she is from Hong Kong. When I brought this up to my room mate, she says "No Chinese". ARE YOU SERIOUS?! So I kindly reply why, and she says she can not stand fish. She then proceeded to say, Phillipino, Vietnamese and Japanese are okay but no Chinese or Koreans. She would prefer a "white or Canadian, Indian or girl such as myself " ( west Indian ). ARE YOU SERIOUS?! We have had quite the rocky past and I feel like she is just trying to be difficult so I end up paying for an apartment I don't use. She even set into play the following rules:
1) No loud music
2) No over night visitors
3) No guys after 8 pm
4) Inform of parties in advance
Is it just me or is she trying to make my life hard? I highly doubt the majority of students looking for a place to stay will want to stay with her. SAD because of the 1000 buck I will have to pull outta my ass =(

most azns dont eat fish when they are on campus. fresh fish is difficult to buy and expensive in the hamilton region. A white person (or any other ethnic group) is more probable to buy a pack of highliner fish fillets.
And yea i would leave

Fair enough! And I find it horrifying that she stereotypes fish to Asians, because EVERY ethnicity eats fish!!!!!!!!!!

Why would you need to take her opinion into account? It's your landlords decision is it not? Just get the Chinese girl to take it, your (ex) room mate is racial profiling.
Also, the first and last rules seem pretty okay to me. Though the rule about guys after 8pm and no overnight visitors isn't her business as long as you're not loud.

If you have been there for 12 months, all you need to do is give 2 months notice you are leaving (or if that 2 months makes up the 12months, same situation). The landowner cannot force you to sign another contract, nor can this roomate of yours have any impact on you leaving. You do not need to find a replacement. Get out of this stupid situation now.

What's stopping you from telling your roommate to just fuc.k-off and mind her own business?

According to the manager of the building, room mate has to approve of who I bring into the apartment for the remainder of my lease. Hope I find someone who is a good fit =/

This. Really, what's she going to do if you break rules 2 and 3? I'd probably just have guys stay overnight just to piss her off.
You can also just tell your roommate that the person you found is actually one of the "acceptable" Asians then have her find out on her own that she's not-- unless she's better trained at spotting the visual differences than many Asians themselves, she won't even be able to tell.
Once the lease is signed, I can't think of anything she can do that won't make her seem like a betch to the landlord.

That seems like a really sketchy lease. Your roommate could be an ******* and never approve anyone.

My lease is officially over July 31st. I am trying to get someone in there for May 1st. It seems like I can't do much since the room mate has to "approve". Hopefully all works out
