How about going for something you're actually interested in?
So many people have "lab experience" that it's not even something to set you apart. And since you don't seem to care what sort of lab experience as long as you can say that you have some, it really doesn't seem like the right thing for you. If you are actually interested in doing research in a particular area, look at some profs working in that field, read some of their papers and see if they're someone you'd like to work/volunteer for. If they are, then you email them to ask if they would be willing to meet with you and if they have any spots available.
Since it's already summer, you probably won't have any luck finding a summer position, since as was mentioned earlier, most people look for these positions in January. But maybe you could find something else that you are actually interested in.
