Someone told me these exist.. o_o
1) How much do they cost?
2) Can I just walk into shoppers and buy some?
3) Any side effects?
4) DO THEY ACTUALLY WORK?

Yeah, I'm lactose intolerant and I just take them before I eat.
1) I think mine were $12-15 at costco for a 120 capsules
2) Yes
3) None I've ever experience
4) Absolutely!

I used to take them and I know a bunch of people who take them currently, and they do work.
At Shoppers they will be more expensive than Costco...but if it allows you to eat dairy you should spare no expense, lol.

Do they work immediately? Like, just pop one right before you have dairy?

Yes, these sorts of pills will work that fast. They contain the enzyme required to metabolize lactose, which lactose intolerant people can't produce for themselves.
All that's required is that the enzyme be introduced to your digestive system for it to work.

To explain, lactose intolerants have pills that break down the harmful proteins before they are digested while celiacs suffer without wheat...ever...
Although solutions are being sought by pharmaceutical companies.

Actually, the pills break down the carbohydrate lactose, which lactose intolerants can't break down because they don't produce lactase naturally. It's different because lactose isn't actually harmful... if the body can't break it down, then the bacteria living in the gut will use it for energy, producing bad by-products including gas and diarrhea.

According to the internets, some people have developed an bad reaction to the pills, like I did. Now I can't use them anymore without nausea and vomiting. :( There are other probiotic-based pills, though, if that happens to you.

I guess if you aren't serious enough about eating your dairy then you'll let the smallest things get in your way... geez....

Yeah you're right. When you go with your friend (who DOES have a membership), they also check to see which person is taking which items.
Oh wait.
