If you can't get into Costco, Walmart has Lactase capsules at a lower price than most pharmacies; the "extra strength" ones tend to be more economical.

Oh, and the store brand ones are fine. Just compare the ingredient lists.

You could also just get a membership; it's $50. You could save that much just on toilet paper alone haha

See, the thing is...dairy is one of the only things I eat. I get cramps daily. ._.

Also, stupid question but uh... :

why the hell does it affect me more some days than others? I actually skipped my morning classes today 'cause of how sick I felt (and I had a smaller bowl of cereal than I normally do >_<)

I was just kidding about the dairy haha.

Compare ingredients on your dairy products? Maybe some have different synthetic materials...?

Midterm time.

Some people are truly lactose intolerant, while others are lactose maldigesters. Maldigesters have lower lactase enzymatic activity, but they can usually enjoy some dairy without discomfort. Something like a glass or two of milk or equivalent. I'm lactose intolerant, but I decide I want ice cream now, dammit, it usually helps if I've eaten before and have food in my gut. I think I read somewhere before that this slows lactose's availability to your gut bacteria. For me, my symptoms are still there, but markedly decreased. So for you, it might be you're actuallly a maldigester, not really intolerant. If you are actually intolerant, having dairy when your stomach isn't empty might help reduce symptoms.

On a related note, lactose-free milk tastes sweeter than regular milk. Okay for breakfast but it's horrid in savoury applications.

lawleypop says thanks to Shanel for this post.

women's bodies also change more than males. so depending on your hormone cycle you may have more of a reaction to things just because your body is a little bit more cranky to begin with.

From a former employee- it doesn't matter. Half the time people wouldn't check, and even if they did most of the Cashier's wouldn't care. And if you said something like: "its my Mother's card, and we still live together" than they would let you use it.

It's not fun.

However having celiac disease and/or a gluten deficiency is waaay worse. There is wheat in EVERYTHING.

lactose intolerance pills
Probiotic containing dairy products have little lactose - yogurt with active cultures, Natrel Pro milk, some cheeses. Also Walmart has cheaper lactase, and it's even cheaper in the Sates at Target and Walmart.

Yogurt in general has little lactose, since all yogurts (by definition) contain active bacterial cultures.

Not to go off topic, but a study just came out not long ago confirming what I've suspected for a long time: "probiotic" foods actually have no added benefit... they're just more expensive to make money off of people who don't know better

I figured as much. =P I think the same thing when I see that danactiv commercial throwing out that term... "B something." No average person knows what that means. People are way too gullible.

Good thing I don't eat yogurt anyways. Just milk and cheese. ;D

Those pills don't work for me. They work for a small amount of dairy, but I can't eat pizza or ice cream. I swear by imodium. I take them right after I have dairy, even before the symptoms start.
