Understanding the MSU Teaching Awards
Awards and Criteria
To fully identify outstanding contribution, three categories exist to recognize deserving professors. All awards require the same nomination form. Please fill-out the nomination form found at
https://www.msumcmaster.ca/servicesa...o/nominate.htm
1. Faculty Awards are presented each year to one instructor from each of the following faculties (or schools or programs): Arts & Science, Business, Engineering, Health Sciences, Humanities, Social Science, Social Work, Nursing, Kinesiology and Science. The instructor must not have been a recipient the previous year. This award recognizes outstanding all round teaching performance of the instructor. Merits which are considered include (for example) ability to communicate, approachability, and enthusiasm of the instructor as recognized by students registered in their classes. This instructor is chosen due to student votes and follow up evaluations.
2. Merit Awards are awarded to first or second year instructors. This award is designed to recognize and encourage new instructors whose teaching abilities and contribution to the McMaster community have been significant, effective and are therefore worthy of distinction.
3. Lifetime Achievement Awards are presented to one or more instructors who have shown dedication to teaching at McMaster University for at least ten years, have been nominated for an MSU Teaching Award in the past and are close to retirement. This award recognizes the significant contribution by an instructor to the McMaster community due to their proven years of outstanding teaching but also considers their contributions to academia.
