Letter of Permission Eng and Management
I'm in Engineering and Management (Level 2) and am planning on taking some Commerce courses at other universities in the summer ahead. I spoke to my counsellor and she said I couldn't do this. Why not? Wouldn't Management be considered a minor whereas I could take a maximum of six units at other universities?

Thanks for any insight anybody may have!

if im not mistaken it is not a minor, since im pretty sure when we graduate our degree say b.eng mgmt as opposed to just a b.eng and then in the fine print then your minor is listed.

I always thought management was a kind of major (combined with whatever you're managing)

Hey what reason did she give that you couldn't do this?
From my past experience with Genie, or whatever her name is, she has never been helpful and is usually a huge b word.

Yeah I don't know whats up with her. He has been completely useless to me and to a couple of my friends too. She is the complete opposite of Sally Williams in terms of helpfulness.

because the commerce courses are a requirement in our program, they aren't considered extra which is why we don't get the "minor" title. That being said, we take more than 24 units of commerce by the time we graduate, so you should value your b.eng.mgmt more than a b.eng+minor in commerce

Seriously, it pisses me off!

You're a guidance counselor. If you hate your job then go find a new one.

Hey guys,

So the reason you can't take commerce courses at other universities is related to the accreditation of the Management program. It is considered to be more of a major than a minor. You may want to clarify this with Anna Sciascetti or David Potter who may be able to provide more information than Jeanne. Even though Jeanne couldn't help you, seek out other resources within the engineering office and you will likely find your answer!
