So life sci 2C03 is full already having asked someone who got onto solar cuz of soc sci today. Being a second year course, are there any spots available for 2nd year life science students or have all the upper years taken this course? :(

Actually the course has more spots reserved for second year (life sci) students, which is why your friend in soc sci sees it as full.
