Life Sci Timetables: Calc for life sci 2
Hi!

To get the most out of the first year life science course would it be recommended to take both calc for life sci I and II? For example, learning more math to have better understanding intro physics or the chemistry's.

Would I be missing out? Has anyone regret not taking it?

Or would it be just as fine to choose another possibly interesting elective instead?

If you're not interested in math don't take the second one. It's not really going to help you much with physics or chemistry. First year physics and chemistry is mostly plugging stuff into your calculator and solving for variables. Though, taking math does allow you to practice the thinking that physics and chemistry require in order to solve what you're looking for. But if you're going to struggle in it, it's not worth it.

The only course that it could probably help you in is Stats 2B03 where I've heard some of the probability stuff in Math 1LT3 was covered once again in Stats 2B03 so that it was review for them. But if you've done Grade 12 Data Management, the first half of Stats 2B03 is review. In my opinion, even if you don't take Math 1LT3 and haven't taken Grade 12 Data, you should still be fine in Stats 2B03 because the material is pretty straightforward.

I'm in Bio (however, there is a lot of overlap with Life Sci courses) and I only took the first calc in my first year. If you don't ever plan on taking upper level clac courses in later years, you don't need to take Calc II. Even for Stats 2B03 in second year, I can't recall any overlap in content with calc from first year. The courses I've taken in upper years that have required 'calc-like' math have all been super simple having just taken Calc I
