looking for apartment and flatmates
Hi All,

I am from India and will be joining McMaster as a graduate student (ECE) starting January 2013. I am looking for housing options preferably near university. Which areas would be better to rent an apartment and what are the prices normally? Would an unfurnished/furnished place be better?

Also, I am looking for flatmates (girls), you can contact me directly on [email protected].

Thanks in advance for your help and replies.

hey!

there are quite a few options for apartmetns ard mcmaster...camelot towers is one of them but personally don like the set up feels really old ..a good one to look into will be http://westvillagesuites.ca/ its aprtment style ( so u share the apartment with 3/4 ppl) and u don have the trouble of looking for roomates and is mostly occupid by students so its safe too..also look into the mac off campus housing website ther are plenty of options there

good luck with your search..

p.s. i was in your situation a couple of years back when i left india !

Hi Shaina!

There are lots of apartments around University Plaza and Main/Whitney , that range between $700-1000 and are pretty nice. I've lived in this area for two years now and I have no complaints. It's right along the bus routes and close to grocery stores so it's handy. The apartments are usually a mixture of older students and families so it's quiet and clean (no loud undergrad parties when you're trying to sleep/study!)

I don't think many of these places are furnished, but you can find furniture for pretty cheap on Kijiji if you're not too picky. Or, you can see if other people in the building/area are movig out and want to sell their furniture.

As for roommates, you could try contacting your department and see if there are other graduate students starting in January too that may be looking for a place to live.

Good luck!

** Just to be clear that's $700-1000 in total, so you'd be paying between $350-500 per person + utilities.
