Mac defends $13,000 to fly former president’s wife to Australia
McMaster University spent more than $13,000 on executive class airfare for the spouse of former president Peter George so she could accompany him on a week-long trip to Australia in 2006.
The $13,125 spent for return flights from Toronto to Adelaide for George’s spouse was part of nearly $30,000 in expenses he submitted for attending the Australian conference, hosted by the Association of Commonwealth Universities in April 2006. The documents were released to The Spectator through a Freedom of Information request.
The airfare for George’s spouse is equivalent to the average yearly tuition for two McMaster undergraduate students.

Didn't you know? Wives are extremely important. They make the sammiches and shit. Obviously she deserves a $13,000 flight when it would cost us commoners $4,000 tops.
Shame on you for not understanding that.

I went to Australia in May, and my whole trip cost me less than $4000, and that included two domestic flights (Melbourne - Sydney, and Sydney - Cairns). But I'm cheap, so that's probably the difference.

There's a real problem when they can justify paying 13 k for this and then it becomes a huge imposition whenever the apparently lesser, actual employees of McMaster need more money, more benefits etc to live off of.
Great priorities Mac!

They are ""Executives"" so they probably spent $13k on Executive's first class while you spent the money on economy.

The point is, who cares about executive/business vs economy? I can't even justify it for important people, let alone the wife of an "important person."
Who cares HOW the **** you get there, just that you do. Honestly, I'm all for consumerism and capitalism, but jesus christ does it ever piss me off.
(Edit: I'm not really sure why I quoted your post, lol)

I know. I was making the point that it wouldn't have even cost her $4000 to fly to Australia if Peter George or his wife actually cared about how much of McMaster's money they were spending.

I don't think most students understand how businesses work... everyone seems to be outraged for paying for our President to do his job. When you're in the corporate world, they'll fly you out to places to do work, too!
Although they often don't let you take a spouse... perhaps that was slightly excessive.

It cost my family of four a total of $2000 round trip (including all the shet that's more expensive in Australia than in Canada and US - wtf are they so much more expensive there?!). If you want discounts, fly with me. Just sayin'.
