Mac OS X Customization
Hey

so a couple weeks back on one of the 'Which Laptop' or 'is a Mac ok' threads there was a reply with picture of a customized OS X Desktop and the programs used.

I thought I had bookmarked it but clearly not. I cant seem to find it either.

Any help would be awesome

Thanks
Rioch

Yep, I like to keep it simple. Not a fan of clutter lol.
Hard? Mmmm, not hard at all. The geektools part was the easiest simply because you just had to go around and search for scripts (or script it yourself).

More so, the customization of Candybar with the downloading and searching of icon packs that suit you best took the longest. But by no means is it a difficult task to do.

I just noticed the 'Forever Alone' in the bottom right, LOL.

I almost missed this thread

Colin, very nice setup. Is it a Macbook or an iMac?

Here's mine:

A lot of people don't like it because the dock icons are all similar. I really like it to be as minimal as possible so it was perfect for me.

Nobody uses MSN anymore, it's kinda sad to see 3 people on..

I agree, having the dock icons similar would be annoying at first but once you get used to the order of the icons the similarity makes it look nicer.

You can do all that customization with those two programs Colin mentioned? How much RAM does it take?

Well mine isn't much customization at all because I didn't use Geektool, although I have in the past for other desktops.

I just replaced the dock files with some clear ones so that there is no dock. Then I made dock icons using a template I found online and changed them using a program called Candybar. Finally I added a black bar to the wallpaper so that I could read the icons. It shouldn't use any more RAM than an un-customized dock.

The music thing to the left of my dock is called Bowtie and it doesn't use much RAM. The thing in the top right is just Adium with a skin on it.

I think that's about it.

Pages/Numbers/Keynote (iWork) are way better than Microsoft office bundle
Notebook by circusponies.com is amazing, its almost like OneNote. I love it, can't live without it.
CandyBar and GeekTools to customize the graphic design look below
FormulatePro is a free PDF editor its amazing and easy to use

This conversion of change in icons/time on desktop etc are by GeekTools and Candy Bar
Sure the OS X has widgets like time/to do/calender/weather etc and thats by pressing the dashboard on your keyboard but I love to have time like this on my desktop.
