if money isn't a factor and you you use your computer only for casual stuff like internet and taking notes then get a mac. IMO PC users know they want a PC because of things like gaming, value, and advanced computing like programming or tweaking things or anything like that. Since you aren't sure it tells me you don't care about gaming or getting behind the scenes of your OS so pay more for the cool product with a simple OS and better than most PCs battery life. Also you can then go to a starbucks without feeling like an alien if you have a macbook.
p.s I actually hate macs, but I just have different priorities than the average unversity student.

Let's not make it seem like Macs are completely inept at running games.
Obviously they're not the best and if you are a serious gamer they are not the way to go. That being said, I play TF2 and SC2 from time to time and I don't have any problems.
And in terms of advanced computing, programming and anything else that comes with having Windows, you can just bootcamp it (you obviously know this already just wanted to point it out again).
What I'm getting at is, Julian is right about the value thing. If you want more for your money, get a PC. If you want a less-valued computer with a different OS (I say different because not everyone will like it, I personally like it more than Windows) then get a Mac.
tl;dr: You're paying for the OS when you get a Mac, figure out if you like it.
