MacPass 2007

The 2007 MAC Pass
*please note this article is for the 2007 MacPass. More information about the 2008 MacPass will come later*
By Danielle Lorenz

Many students have asked about the MAC Pass, which has prompted me to write about it. In this article you will know what a MAC Pass is, what it gets you during Welcome Week, the stuff you get in it, and other random factoids.

What is the MAC Pass?
The MAC pass is an all-access passport that lets you get into every event during Welcome Week. The way you gain admittance to exclusive Welcome Week events is through the MAC Pass wrist band (so don’t loose it!). Also in the MAC pass is gear from your residence (or SOCS) and faculty.

Why should I buy a MAC Pass?
The first reason is so you don’t miss out on an awesome time during Welcome Week! The second is that the MAC Pass funds most (70%) of the events during Welcome Week. So, if no one buys a MAC Pass, Welcome Week won’t be much fun!

How much does a MAC Pass cost?
Until August 10th the MAC Pass costs $130 (taxes included). After August 10th the price goes up to $140 (taxes included).

How do I order A MAC Pass?
There are three ways to do this. The first is to mail in, fax or drop off an order form. The second is to purchase one on Welcome Day – August 10th 2007. The final way is to order one during Welcome Week. However, the price of a MAC Pass increases after August 10th, so it is better to get one sooner rather than later! Learn more about the McMaster FYEO MacPass on MacInsiders!!!

What do I get in a MAC Pass?
  • a massive laundry bag
  • a res/SOCS t shirt
  • any other goodies from your res/SOCS such as hats, bracelets, keychains, bandanas etc (it varies). If more people buy in advance, the more money the Welcome Week planners can spend on stuff in the MAC passes, so buy early (PLEASE)!!!
  • faculty shirt
  • faculty swag (again varies; some items include umbrellas, cups, clipboards, bandanas, shoe bags)
  • other random free stuff (this varies from year to year; items in the past have been food, candy, toiletry items etc)

What events does a MAC Pass get me into?
  • IRIS play (Sunday or Monday; depends on individual residence or SOCS)
  • Sunday September 2nd: admittance and participation in Carnival (blow-up games, mechanical bull, food, other stuff)
  • Monday September 3rd: Block Party (food, music, contests in each residence quad), Monday Night Social (blow-up games, a live band, speed dating, dance lessons, other stuff)
  • Tuesday September 4th: Faculty Day (activities vary by faculty)
  • Wednesday September 5th: Pancake breakfast in MUSC
  • Thursday September 6th: Faculty night (many faculties do trips off-campus…and the ones I have been on are LOTS of fun)
  • Friday September 7th: Charity Casino, Hypnotist Mike Mandel
  • Saturday September 8th: ticket to Marauder’s home opener (football game), admittance to concert (if you don’t have a MAC Pass and want to go you have to pay $15 [WW Reps pay $5 with their lanyard])
When do I get my MAC Pass?
Pickup for the MAC Pass is during Welcome Week, starting September 1st. The absolute last day you can pick up your MAC Pass is September 4th.

Is it worth it?
YES!

No, really. Is it worth it?
YES!

The FYEO won't start selling them again until the end of June when the Summer Orientation Days start.

They haven't said how much it will cost yet. But for the past four years, it was $130 before Welcome Day, and then $140 afterwards
