Materials Engineering Minor?
So im going into 2nd year materials. And i see that i have to take a elective every year. Is there any chance i can focus all my electives and get a minor in something?

Or are all these electives going to be a waste of time and $ on random classes?

I want to keep it to 4 years too.

I'm going into my 4th year of matls and I have a few friends that are minoring in economics. They've taken some summer courses to get it though. So yes, it is possble, but I don't know if it's worth the time and money.

You have a total of 9 units of electives to take in levels II, III, and IV of Materials Engineering. You need at least 24 to declare a minor.

Assuming you didn't take anything this summer, you have two more summers to take electives. With two terms/summer and cap of 6 units/term, you could get 24 units of electives in the next two summers and your minor done in that time, but it won't happen since summer course selection is pretty limited. If you happened to take electives that are required for your minor in first year, that will help too. Otherwise, I'd recommend you check out which courses you need to take for a minor, and compare them to what was available to take this summer for a rough outline of how you want to plan the next three years, then try to map out what you'll be taking.

Of course, you could always just take more than the required units of electives (6 instead of 3) and get more done in the fall term.

I'm entering Level II Materials and Society, and getting a minor easily was pretty much the only reason I chose to be in the Society program. But if you're sure you want to keep your schooling at four years, your options are above.
