Math 1LS3 Final Exam
So I'm writing Math 1LS3 deferred exam near the end of this month. (sucks I know, please don't rub it in my face)

Did anyone take this course last term? How did you find the Final Exam? Several people told me that it is harder than normal tests and this worries me since I have 3 other mid-terms to prepare for... :( Any tips would be awesome.

yep, I found it significantly harder than the tests, there were a few tricky questions, and I probably didnt do so well on it compared to the tests, but i still ended up with the mark i wanted in the course. My only advice is to look over your notes and know everything thats in it.

Thanks rcmp1234. How many days did you study for it by the way? I didn't think Lovric would make a hard test considering how laid back of a guy he is and all...

Never assume a nice/laid-back/relaxed prof will make easy tests or be an easy marker. That is very bad logic.

I thought that exam was very good. Just one or two tricks, nothing too hard. Good luck!

I thought it was okay. I studied a fair amount for it and only struggled with maybe one or two questions. As long as you're at least somewhat familiar with all the concepts (assuming you practice everything), you'll do fine. But make sure you give yourself enough time to study everything.

I actually did better on the exam than on the last two tests, so if you didn't do too well on a test, don't let that discourage you.

Thanks for tips. I'm worried about integration part cuz that wasn't on test 4 but oh well.

yeah, prepare for a lot and seriously ALOT of integration!!! i ended up with an A in the course and thats the test average mark i went in, even though i thought the exam was a lot harder. i think your average going in should give you a pretty good idea of how you're gonna come out of the exam.

For me, the exam was harder than the tests but I found the first two tests were really easy so it kinda balanced out. Integration was definitely the trickiest thing for me because, like you said, we weren't tested on it. Overall though, the integration itself was easy but sometimes realizing that you needed to integrate was the problem. (there was integration by parts, by substitution and a few basic ones just like Lovric said)

tl;dr: Math part was easy, figuring out what each question wanted you to do was sometimes not so easy.

If you're worried about integration, you can use your calculator to double check all your answers. It only works for definite integrals though.

So for example if you want to find the integral ∫x2cosx between 10 and 30

you press the ∫dx button on the calculator top left next to "CALC"
then type in the function
to type in X just press Alpha and then the ")" button
then "^" button, then "2"
followed by "cos" and then Alpha ")" to get the x
finally to specify what region press the "," button it's next to the ")" button
then enter your starting point "10" then "," again and then your ending point "30" and finally close the bracket by pressing ")"

and press equals and it spits out an answer for you
depending on how complex the integral is, it can take a really long time, i remember once it took 8 minutes to just calculate one integral

Edit: it should be x^2 not x2 at the top
