math 1LS3 - which textbook?
Hi,

Which textbook do we need:

The one with the elephant cover (calc for life sci)
The one with many pictures in a square pattern (calc for life sci custom course wear)?

Whats the difference? What are the modules and do we need them for this course only?

Thanks!

None.

Just do the practice assignments and go to class.

Thanks guys!
One last thing: Whats the solution manual? What does it give the solutions to? The course pack or the manual question?

The solutions to the courseware will be posted by the prof on the Math 1LS3 website, and the solution manuel gives full solutions to the textbook problems (i think it was only odd numbered questions though).

Farky says thanks to Swampis for this post.

I am also debating on whether or not to buy the textbook! It's quite expensive and many have told me it's a waste of money as well, since the coursepack has all the practice questions and the textbook is only if you need further help.

Really don't want to spend $80+ on a course many say you can get 10's, 11's and 12's in!

I shouldn't get the textbook right?

Everyone I've asked said you hardly use the textbook, but I asked Dr. baker today if its optional or required and he said required. He keeps referencing it in lectures and online... I might buy a crumby one second hand...

I used the textbook a lot, but others didn't. This is probably one of the courses where your textbook decision is more based on your learning style than the course.

i used a version which was 7 years old when i took the course... ZERO material added/changed... just the organization of the textbook material was switched. haha. so if you have access to an older sibling/friend's book, don't waste your money on it.

get the course-ware for practise though.

I personally found the textbook really useful, but there were many people that didn't even look at theirs.
