Math 1ZC3 Custom Courseware
Hey I'm looking at the texts I need for next term and for this course there is this stupid secondary text. Does anyone know how important/useful/necessary this is?

Here's my logic and conclusion: they have to teach you the same thing they taught us. The book that you have for 1ZA3 and 1ZB3 does not have all the material in it: The rest of it is from Advanced Engineering Mathematics, which you use in 2nd year, and anther book that you SORT OF refer to in second year for Matlab. What they did for us (last year) was copy those sections of the books, into a custom courseware. You COULD ignore the courseware, take the risk, and buy the book that we have for second year, because you'll need it anyways... But it IS a risk, because there's no guarantees they didn't change and/or add other things.

On the other hand, you could buy the courseware and be done with it, because I can pretty much guarantee you'll need it.

the "third hand option" (yea, you have 3 hands... You're deformed... Who cares) is to not buy it and just wing the tests

Up to you!

Wow Mike, that's actually really helpful advice. I guess I'll just decide when the time comes, if the courseware is cheap I might just pick it up.

Is it the one with the matricies and shit in it or is that 2nd year? Yeah, its required anyways, otherwise they wouldn't make custom courseware for math...

Best thing to do is to go splitzies with some friends and you can share the booklet.

There is also a .pdf version of the CCW online if you know where to look (pm for link). I don't think its the complete one, but I used that and then for the few pages it was missing I borrowed the the second year math textbook from the library and photocopied them. This was two years ago though when it was MATH 1ZZ5 so I don't know if the CCW is still the same?

Also if you go the route of buying the second year textbook now you run the risk of not being able to sell it after your done with it because it will most likely become old and it will be difficult to sell. I think Math 2Z03/2ZZ3 is on the 4th ed. now and the copied stuff you need from the CCW was from the 3rd ed.

Actually I'm in Comp Sci so Im done with math basically after this year so buying the 2nd year textbook is out of the question. I think I will just buy the courseware I was just making sure it wasn't bogus trying to steal your money. Although I may check out that pdf version you are talking about that would save me 30 bucks, but it might not be worth the inconvenience.

Thanks for your help

Last year, they copied the custom courseware for the second term engineering math from your second year math text book. I was kicking myself for buying the courseware when i could have just bought the text early. But we has 1 five unit math last year, not 2 three unit maths so u may want to double check that.

If you have a look at the one in Titles, and get a hold of me... PM me. I have it, I know the title of the book will be different. I don't know how different the content will be. Find out the chapters in the book and we can go from there. It shouldn't be large: Ours wasn't thick by any means.

i looked at the course schedule for math 1zc3, and from that i can conclude that last year's custom courseware will be sufficient.
