The fourth annual Pump it Up Contest is hosted by TD Bank. Colleges and universities across Canada are competing in featherweight, lightweight and heavyweight divisions for the chance to have a trio of bands perform at their school for free.
This year students are competing to have Steve Aoki, Dragonette and Young Empires perform on campus. McMaster will face off against Queens University in the final round of the heavyweight division.
McMaster had been working tirelessly to keep their momentum going by gaining votes and student interest the best way they know how.
“The most effective tool to spread a message these days is to use your supportive networks through social media,” said Al Legault, director of campus events at McMaster University.
“So our Facebook is definitely the central station and we're also using the face-to-face strategy.”
McMaster beat out the University of Ottawa to face Mohawk in the semi-finals. The local rivalry was fierce, with both sides flooding the contest page with comments about which school might bring home the big prize.
According to Legault, Mac pride is still going strong from welcome week back in early September and he's been riding that wave to get students excited about the contest.
