McMaster Fun Facts
Hello boys and girls

I doing a small project for welcome week and I need your help

I need your help with finding fun (as in not boring) facts about McMaster!
So anything from famous Alumni, sports teams, academics, student clubs, etc.
Here are some facts off top of my head:
  • Eugene levy is a McMaster Alumni
  • McMaster won the OUCH competition 7 times of the last 8
  • McMaster Volleyball team won 1st place in Ontario two ears in a row.
  • Largest school newspaper in the country. (?)
Every little thing helps!

Thanks,

Victor

It's one of the only broadsheet newspapers left, if that's what you mean by largest.

Whidden won bedraces six out of the last eight years. And their colour was always ORANGE. Not green (grrr)!!

McMaster is one of the schools with the most number of clubs in comparison to others. At last count, McMaster had over 270.

One of our professors attended the Obama inauguration (Dr. Dawn Martin-Hill).

MacInsiders is the largest club at Mac, with approximately 5100 members as of the end of April 2009.

Animal House is NOT based on Whidden Hall.

Here is a list of Mac Alumni. Some notable people: Dalton McGuinty, Michael Lee-Chin, Roberta Bondar, Adam van Koeverdan, John Candy etc.

Why are you doing this project, and for who?

It's a rumor. For example, there are some accounts that say in the Whidden Riots people were throwing things out of fifth story windows. Whidden has four floors and a basement, which is not five stories.

Also, I saw an interview with Ivan Reitman on The Hour a few years ago, and he states the idea came from a US university, and not Mac.

And lastly...Reitman apparently lived in Matthews, while many of his friends lived in Whidden.

And toga parties had been around waaaaaaaay before 1961 when Whidden was first built.

- They filmed the naked mile movie here too.

- We've got a piece of Einstein's brain held up here in MDCL

- The hospital has more square footage than any other building/(destination?) in ontario.. and like that's comparing it to things like wonderland too..

- We have something in the way of tele/microscopes that's larger than anywhere else in Ontario/(Canada?).. I suppose I'm not too helpful here because I don't really remember the details. The point is we have some pretty nice equipment in the ABB basement.

There are little "coats of arms" on the Refectory walls, those are of various Canadian universities.

I think it's the best scanning electron microscope in a school in the world....

And I got to use one down there! EXCITING

Also, that movie where the dude bangs chicks in alphabetical order was filmed here.

Also also, I think it's interesting that we have an engineering musical! Going on 12 years old next year, it's the only one I've ever heard of!!

Cool. Do you have any idea what scenes were filmed there?
