McMaster GSA Soccer League looking for teams
Hi all,
Many of you may not be aware but there is a soccer league that runs on campus during the summer known as the GSA Soccer League. It is a co-ed league and has been around for about 30 years. We are looking for new teams/players this year. Here are the specifics of the league:

1. All games are a full 90 minutes and played every Saturday (except long weekends) and on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (once every other week approximately). Every team plays every other team once, last year this meant 16 season games, plus a single elimination knock-out playoff at the end. All games played on McMaster University campus.

2. Teams field 11 players, and 3 of them must be female. Males cannot replace females so if you only have 2 present at a game, you must play one player short

3. Team rosters are capped at 28 players maximum.

4. No slide tackles allowed, otherwise we use FIFA rules.

5. All teams must have at least 1 capable person to referee matches. Your team can expect to be responsible for reffing 10 or 11 games throughout the season and playoff. Refs get paid at the field $30 per game.

6. Fines and Suspensions – teams will accrue fines for no referee, any OSA fineable offences, and if no women show up for your team.

7. Cost – At this point it is unknown since we don't know how many teams we will have in the end (meaning we don't know how many games you will play). If we use last year as a guide the cost was $1655 per team. The breakdown of that was: $1200 league fee, $200 is a refundable bond and $255 is required to pay the refs for the $1655 total. There were 16 regular season games plus at least one playoff game. If you go all the way to the final you would have 20 games.

If you are wondering why so much versus say your intramural costs, it is because we are treated as an outside entity as our tuition fees do not offset costs as they do for intramural sports. The single biggest chuck of the fee is for field rental, and then insurance to cover the players should they get hurt.

If you do not have a team we can try to put one together (i.e. a Free Agent team) like they do in intramurals.

If anyone is interested, please send your inquiries to [email protected] m

If my player weekly salary would be anywhere near this, then count me in! heh
