I was seeing a physician's assistant at my doctor's office for years. He quit to go work in the US, because he said the Ontario government had cut all funding for PAs.

The government may have cut funding for that PAs position, but for all PAs this is not true. There are some family health teams and neurosurgery positions that are 100% funded permanently. There are new PA grads from UofT and McMaster that have obtained temporary funding for the first year of work through Health Force Ontario, with the caveat that the PA employer continue to pay for the PA's salary beyond this.

Usually employers will get funding through department/hospital, and/or make the PA position as part of an expense that comes from hiring staff such as Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, Admin Staff etc. Very setting dependent.
