Yes, a whole bunch of blades, but also a "mainframe"/Enterprise Server, a bunch of rack mount servers, a few sun boxen remaining, disk arrays, storage networking, tape libraries, networking gear of a wide variety and many other bits of tech...
But, sadly, no match for construction workers wielding fibre seeking backhoes...

You guys are massively over estimating what powers most of McMaster's business systems. Most of MUGSI's more recent hardware was acquired in the mid 90s (think IBM mainframe)

^He's hit that right on the money. In addition its not like Mac stores all this equipment in some ultra-modern facility...its actually far from modern at all if you think about it. The place doesnt even have air conditioning last time I checked (but there is air ventilation). Ill leave the location to your wild imaginations to figure out

Wow, now I'm intrigued, but just don't have that good an imagination... When was the last time you checked? Where were you looking? Where did you guys get your intel?

So, it's been a couple of days... Honestly, I am interested in what (and where) people think the general admin systems are for campus!
I'll tell you that it's more like my list than the other two provided descriptions! For starters; yes there is dedicated, redundant A/C cooling and has been for decades. As well, dedicated and redundant UPS power systems with campus wide diesel generator backup. In fact both primary computer rooms have had major renos each within the last 5 years, improving the cooling and power systems and even adding (computer friendly) fire suppression finally...
Even the current "Mainframe" (IBM would prefer you call it an "Enterprise Server" these days :-) ) is less than 5 years old in terms of hardware!

System admins won't do any good when the internet cable is ripped off from the ground.
